PHOTOS: June's Shibori Retreat was a Success!

All photos by: Andrea Plell of Ecologique Fashion    The inaugural Shibori Retreat at Johnson’s Beach in Guerneville was a success last month! We worked outdoors the whole time under the trees. It was such an inspiring space. All the students came from around the Bay Area, one from as far as LA. They camped out or stayed in cabins. Everyone created beautiful works from small napkins to extra large picnic blankets. Most people hadn’t used indigo before and wow! They did a great job. The lovely Andrea Plell of Ecologique Fashion came by on Sunday and took some great shots of our set up. Check out their work. "I Upcycled Your Shirt" for Fashion Revolution Week

I’m thrilled to say that I’m a card carrying member of the West Coast Chapter of the Fashion Revolution Group. Fashion Revolution is an international group started in London who’s mission is to raise awareness around the human cost of fast fashion. Fashion Revolution falls on the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse where over 1,000 apparel industry workers died in Bangladesh. They pose the question "Who Made My Clothes?" to put a face to the garment. But what can we do as individuals to stand up against the human cost and waste of fast fashion? Instead of throwing out old clothes, think about repurposing or "upcycling" them. Read why Upcycling is better than recycling here. It's a great way to make a...

IN STORE: Featured on Ecohabitude.com

I'm excited to be a new seller on ecohabitude.com. I had the pleasure of being interviewed and featured on their blog. One very warm sunny afternoon in August, Andrea Plell of ecohabitude.com came by and visited me in my backyard studio.  I hand-dye all my products using organic indigo and other natural dyes. I'm excited to be a new seller their socially conscious marketplace. It was great to show her around and talk to her about my process. When she asked me how I got into dyeing and shibori, I told her how I'd spilt coffee on a fav white dress. Typical me! I'm such a klutz. I couldn't give up that dress so I dyed it indigo blue. And I still wear...
